Cerebellar Atrophy: Outcome of Ayurveda Treatment
Here is a case study of a patient suffering with cerebellar atrophy and was facing challenge in doing daily activities. This patient was treated with Panchakarma treatment along with Ayurvedic Medicines.
Cerebellar Atrophy: Medical Findings
A 68 years old patient was suffering with Cerebellar Atrophy and because of this, he had problem in walking, muscle rigidity lack of balance and problem with coordination. Patient was non-diabetic, non-smoker, non-alcoholic. He had only history of the Hypertension for which he was on medication. He was on the multi-vitamins only, when he consulted neurologists, but condition was deteriorating day-by-day.
Chief Complaints at the time of admission were:
- Difficulty In Walking
- Difficulty With Body Movements
- Problems with Coordination
- Muscles Weaknes
- Frequent Urination
- Loss Of Appetite
- Constipation Off And On
- Muscle Rigidity
- Polydipsia
Treatment Plan Cerebellar Atrophy
This case was done as a case of Majja-Kshaya. We understand that majja-ksahay is a condition where reference of “प्रततं वातरोगिणीम” comes in the text. And patients with Cerebellar Atrophy are best examples of the same condition. The line of treatment was based on principle of “Samptarpana Chikitsa” (nourishing the body). The following things were done-
- Niruha Basti Chikitsa: for proper nourishment of the Majja Dhatu.
- Anuvasana Basti: To pacify Vata Dosha.
- Pizhichil: This is famous oil bath to settle Vata dosha through the largest organ of the body- skin. The process helped with balancing the Dryness of the body.
- Navara Kizhi: To reduce the spasticity.
- Shirobasti: To reduce Kapha Avarana in the Shirah bhaag
