Can I Use My Health Insurance for Ayurvedic Treatment?

In many cases, yes. Following IRDAI guidance, a large number of health insurance policies in India now cover AYUSH treatment โ€” including Ayurvedic inpatient hospitalization โ€” on the same basis as conventional treatment.

We are a NABH-certified Ayurvedic hospital in Jaipur, and NABH certification is exactly what most insurers require before they will honour an AYUSH hospitalization claim.

But here is the honest part, because we would rather you hear it from us than from a rejection letter: whether your specific treatment is covered depends on your policy, your waiting periods, your sum insured and room-rent limits, and each insurer's own AYUSH rules. Approval rests with your insurer, not with the hospital.

What we can promise is this: we will tell you upfront whether your policy is likely to cover you, which route applies to you โ€” cashless or reimbursement โ€” and we will give you a complete, claim-ready set of documents. Most Ayurvedic insurance claims are rejected not because the treatment wasn't covered, but because the hospital's paperwork was incomplete. That will not happen here.

Cashless or Reimbursement โ€” Which One Applies to You?

These are two different journeys. We will tell you which one is yours before you commit to anything.

Cashless โ€” If we are in your insurer's or TPA's network for AYUSH treatment, and your treatment requires hospitalization, we can apply for pre-authorization before your admission. If approved, the insurer settles the covered amount with the hospital directly, and you pay only what is not covered. Cashless must be approved before treatment begins โ€” it cannot be arranged afterwards.

Reimbursement โ€” If cashless is not available on your policy, you pay for the treatment and then claim the amount back from your insurer afterwards. Your claim's success depends heavily on complete documentation โ€” the exact discharge summary, itemised bills, diagnosis, prescriptions and reports your insurer requires. This is the paperwork we prepare for you, in the format insurers expect.

โš ๏ธ Important: Coverage, network status, waiting periods and AYUSH rules are set by your insurer and vary from policy to policy. They also change over time. Send us your policy details and we will confirm the current, correct route for your specific case โ€” before you make any commitment.

How to Check Your Coverage โ€” Free, Before You Visit

  1. Send us a photo of your health insurance card or policy schedule on WhatsApp.
  2. We check whether AYUSH / Ayurvedic hospitalization is covered under your policy and whether we are in your network for cashless.
  3. We tell you honestly whether cashless or reimbursement applies, roughly what to expect, and what your policy's limits are likely to mean for you.
  4. You decide โ€” with the full picture in front of you, not after the fact.

What We Treat

Patients come to us most often for chronic conditions that conventional care manages but rarely resolves โ€” the conditions where inpatient Ayurvedic treatment is both clinically appropriate and most likely to qualify for hospitalization cover.

Spine conditions โ€” lumbar disc bulge and prolapse (L4-L5, L5-S1), slip disc and sciatica, cervical spondylosis, cervical myelopathy, post-surgical numbness and weakness, and chronic low back pain.

Joint and autoimmune conditions โ€” Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis (Aamavata), osteoarthritis of the knee, gout, and frozen shoulder.

Neurological conditions โ€” post-stroke rehabilitation, peripheral neuropathy, and facial palsy (Bell's palsy).

Sukhayu Ayurved is not a wellness spa. We are a hospital that treats chronic disease.

Dr. Pardeep Sharma, M.D. (Ayurveda), personally examines every patient. Your disease is staged before any Panchakarma procedure is planned โ€” because Panchakarma given without a diagnosis is not treatment. It is also the documented, diagnosis-led treatment that insurers recognise as genuine hospitalization.

We do not sell packages. We treat diagnoses.

How It Works, End to End

  1. Call or WhatsApp us with a photo of your insurance card or policy. We check your coverage and route โ€” usually the same day.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Pardeep Sharma โ€” full clinical examination, review of your reports, and staging of your disease.
  3. Written treatment plan. For cashless, we apply for pre-authorization before admission. For reimbursement, we tell you exactly what you will need to claim.
  4. Admission and treatment, with proper hospital records maintained throughout.
  5. Claim-ready documents at discharge โ€” discharge summary, itemised bills, diagnosis, prescriptions and reports, in the format your insurer expects.

Why It Matters That We Are NABH Certified

Most insurers will not honour an AYUSH hospitalization claim unless the hospital is NABH certified. It is the single credential that separates a recognised hospital from a wellness centre in the eyes of an insurer.

NABH certification is an independent national accreditation that audits clinical protocols, physician and therapist qualifications, medicine quality and sourcing, infection control, patient records, and patient safety.

When your treatment happens at a NABH-certified hospital, it is documented and auditable โ€” which is exactly what makes a claim approvable. Treatment at an uncertified centre, however good it feels, often cannot be claimed at all.

The same certification that makes us a genuine hospital is also what makes your insurance claim possible.

What We Will Never Do

  • We will never promise you a cure. Cure is divine. Treatment is possible.
  • We will never promise that your insurer will approve your claim. That decision is theirs โ€” we make your claim as strong and complete as it can be.
  • We will never sell you a Panchakarma package before we have examined and diagnosed you.
  • We will never tell you to stop a medicine prescribed by your physician. Ayurvedic care here works alongside your existing treatment, not instead of it.
  • We will never begin treatment without telling you, in writing, what is likely covered and what you may have to pay yourself.

If a centre promises you a guaranteed cure or a guaranteed claim, be careful. Ask them for their NABH certificate instead.

My claim went through without a single query." โ€” Mahendar Gurjar, Private Sector, Jaipur

Frequently Asked Questions

Does health insurance cover Ayurvedic treatment in India? Many health insurance policies now cover AYUSH treatment, including Ayurvedic inpatient hospitalization, following IRDAI guidance. Whether your specific policy covers your treatment depends on your policy terms, waiting periods, sum insured and your insurer's AYUSH rules. Send us a photo of your policy on WhatsApp and we will check the likely position for you, at no cost.

Do you offer cashless treatment on insurance? Cashless is possible where we are in your insurer's or TPA's network for AYUSH treatment and your treatment requires hospitalization, with pre-authorization approved before admission. Where cashless is not available on your policy, treatment is claimed through reimbursement instead. We will tell you which route applies to you before you commit.

What is the difference between cashless and reimbursement? With cashless, the insurer settles the covered amount directly with the hospital, and it must be pre-approved before admission. With reimbursement, you pay for treatment and claim the amount back from your insurer afterwards using the hospital's documents. Reimbursement claims succeed or fail largely on the completeness of the paperwork โ€” which is what we prepare for you.

Will my Panchakarma be covered? Panchakarma delivered as genuine inpatient hospitalization for a diagnosed condition is more likely to qualify than a day-package or wellness treatment. Coverage still depends entirely on your policy and insurer. We confirm the likely position for your specific diagnosis and policy before treatment begins.

Why do Ayurvedic insurance claims get rejected? Most often because of incomplete or non-standard hospital documentation, treatment at a non-NABH-certified centre, policy waiting periods, or treatment that did not qualify as hospitalization. As a NABH-certified hospital that prepares claim-ready documents, we remove the paperwork reasons for rejection โ€” though the final decision always rests with your insurer.

What documents will I get for my claim? A proper discharge summary, itemised bills, your diagnosis, prescriptions and relevant reports, prepared in the format insurers expect. If your insurer asks for anything further, we help you provide it.

Do you also accept RGHS and CGHS? Yes. Sukhayu Ayurved is empanelled under both RGHS and CGHS for eligible government employees and pensioners, in addition to private health insurance.

Is Ayurvedic treatment safe alongside the medicines I am already taking? Yes, when supervised by a qualified physician. Dr. Pardeep Sharma reviews your existing prescriptions before planning treatment. Never stop or reduce a prescribed medicine without consulting the physician who prescribed it. Ayurvedic care here is complementary to your existing treatment, not a replacement.

Will you guarantee a cure or a claim approval? No. No honest physician will guarantee a cure, and no honest hospital will guarantee an insurer's decision. What we give you is an accurate diagnosis, a documented protocol, honest guidance on your coverage, and the strongest, most complete claim your treatment allows.
