Frequently Asked Questions

What is PCOD according to Ayurveda?

Ayurveda understands PCOD as a Vata–Kapha imbalance that obstructs the normal function of Shukra and Artava dhatu (reproductive tissues). This leads to irregular ovulation, cyst formation, and hormonal imbalance. More subtly, Ayurveda considers PCOD as a condition Mandagni- impaired metabolism/insulin resistance which impacts the Apana Vayu (A subtype of the Vata Dosha).

How does Ayurvedic treatment differ from conventional treatment?

The focus of the conventional treatment is- hormone replacement to ensure "timely-induced" periods. But these induced periods with hormones are neither- normal nor natural. Opposite to this, focus of Ayurvedic treatment is not to induce the periods, the main aim of the Ayurveda is to work on the "root-cause" which can be in Mandagni (Slow metabolism), Insulin Resistance (Kapaha Avarana) or else the stress induced disturbance in HPA (Hypothalamus Pituitary Axis). Once root cause is addressed properly- it ensures the normal as well natural periods, timely and properly. Patients doesn't need to opt for medicines every month.

Can PCOD be completely cured with Ayurveda?

Yes in 90% cases enrolled with us we were able to "reverse" the disease completely and not only periods went normal with ayurveda treatment but also- reports also proven normalcy. The goal of the Ayurvedic treatment of PCOD at Sukhayu is to re-establish regular ovulation and natural cycles.

Which Panchakarma therapies are used for PCOD?

There cannot a be a general answer to this question. The selection of the panchakarma procedures is basically according to the involved doshas in the process. Because in most of the cases Kapha (Mandagni/Slow Metabolism/Insulin resistance) is evident thus Vamana (induced vomiting) along with Virechana (induced purgation) are commonly done on the patients. In cases where only Vata is broadly disturbed- we take care of these cases with Basti Chikitsa (Anal route medication). Rest external procedures like Udvartana/Pizhicihil are also selected logically and rationally.

How long does Ayurvedic treatment take to show results?

Sukhayu Ayurved protocol of treatment is basically 90 days to 180 days. We count it to basically- 3 to 6 Menstrual cycles.

Can Ayurveda help with infertility caused by PCOD?

Surely. Fertility is about healthy Beeja, primarily. Beeja- seeds are- Ovum and Sperm. Because ovum/egg are not formed in the condition of PCOD, thus patient undergoes the infertility. Once we treat the condition of the PCOD, it will surely help in the complete resolution of the infertility.
