Neuropathy - Patient Case Study

Patient: 58 Years Male

Patient Baseline

A 58-year-old male patient, leading a sedentary lifestyle and suffering from long-standing diabetes and hypertension, came to Sukhayu Ayurved, Jaipur with severe burning pain and numbness in his feet. He had been on insulin and multiple allopathic medications for over five years but experienced little relief. His daily activities were restricted — even short walks became painful. Interestingly, his son had earlier undergone successful Ayurvedic treatment for Avascular Necrosis at Sukhayu, which inspired him to seek a holistic, root-cause-based approach for his own condition. The patient arrived exhausted — not just physically, but mentally — yearning for comfort, normal movement, and restful sleep.

Panchakarma Protocols

  • Basti Chikitsa: Medicated enema therapy to pacify aggravated Vāta, and nourish the nervous system.
  • Ksheer Dhara: Continuous pouring of medicated milk over the legs and soles to calm Pitta and Vāta.
  • Udvartana: Dry herbal powder massage to eliminate Kapha blockages and improve peripheral blood flow.
  • Nadi Swedana: Localized steam therapy to reduce stiffness and restore sensation in the lower limbs.
  • Lepana: Application of warm herbal paste over soles and calves to soothe burning and aid nerve rejuvenation.

Improvements Observed

  • 70% reduction in burning and tingling within two weeks
  • Improved sensation and balance in both feet by the end of third week.
  • Marked improvement in walking stability—able to walk 30 minutes daily without discomfort.
  • Better sleep quality and reduction in nocturnal burning sensations.
  • Noticeable increase in energy and stamina; morning fatigue disappeared.

Treatment Outcome

By the end of the 3-week Panchakarma phase, the patient experienced a noticeable reduction in burning pain and numbness, with improved gait and steadiness. Sleep quality improved significantly, and episodes of leg cramps reduced. Within six weeks, he reported walking comfortably for longer durations, with minimal discomfort. Follow-up NCV study after three months showed better nerve conduction parameters. His overall vitality improved — with better blood sugar stability, lighter body, and renewed confidence in managing his health naturally.
